Over $238 Million For Public Assistance Approves Thanks To Secretary Mullin’s DHS Reforms

This week, Senator Ted Budd, announced that Secretary of Homeland Security Markwayne Mullin approved more than $238 million in Public Assistance (PA) grant program funding to reimburse localities for Hurricane Helene recovery projects in Western North Carolina.

“Secretary Mullin is delivering on the promises he made to the people of Western North Carolina,” said Senator Budd. “I’m grateful that he and his team have worked with me and my Congressional colleagues to direct needed relief to WNC that ensures funds move through the FEMA review process without unnecessary bureaucratic delay. Our efforts will continue as new projects are completed every single week. My focus remains on ensuring the federal government continues to do its part and make sure funding reaches our Appalachian communities as quickly as possible, and Secretary Mullin has been an excellent partner in delivering results.”

Here are some of the projects that were approved:

·         N.C. Department of Transportation received over $8.6 million for road projects in Buncombe County.

·         $4.4 million for road projects in Mitchelle County.

·         $3 million for road projects in Cleveland County.

·         $9.2 million for road projects in Yancey County.

·         $1.6 million for debris removal from waterways in Yancey County.

·         $5.9 million for road projects in Ashe County.

·         $1.2 million to the city of Brevard to repair Hillview Road.

·         $2.3 million for the N.C. Department of Natural Resources to repair state parks.

·         $7.4 million for the North Carolina Emergency Management to reimburse costs related to responding to Helene.

·         City of Asheville received $5 million for debris removal.

·         Town of Old Fort received $1.4 million for repairs as the result of Helene.

·         Watauga County received $2.7 million for road repairs.
