Republicans Mike Collins and Derek Dooley Advance To June Runoff
Yesterday, Republicans Rep. Mike Collins and Derek Dooley advanced through the primary to the June 14th runoff. Sen. Jon Ossoff faced no opposition in his primary, a typical move by the party establishment to protect vulnerable incumbents. Collins secured 40.5% of the vote and Dooley received 30.2%.
About his first place, Collins said, “Still humbled by last night, but this conservative workhorse doesn’t stop. Wheels up to DC this morning delivering on President Trump’s America First agenda. Serving you in Congress is the honor of a lifetime.” Rep. Collins started a trucking businesses at age 25, and it now employs over 100 people. In addition to leading three businesses Collins serves the United States Congress, where he helped pass the TRANQ Act and Laken Riley Act, helping advance a conservative agenda.
About his second place finish, Derek Dooley said, “THANK YOU! I’m honored by the support we’ve received tonight from hardworking Georgians across our state. To everyone who put their trust in me, donated to the campaign, hosted an event, attended a campaign stop, or voted for me — thank you! This campaign has been about putting the people of Georgia first and sending a new type of leader up to D.C. who’s in it for the right reasons , and that’s to serve. We’ve still got work to do these next four weeks, so let’s get to work and win this runoff!”
Dooley is a long-time college football coach serving schools like the University of Georgia, Southern Methodists, Louisiana State University, Louisiana Tech, and the University of Tennessee. He also coached in the NFL for the Miami Dolphins, Dallas Cowboys, and New York Giants. In addition to his time as coach, he earned a law degree from the University of Georgia.
Dooley continues to highlight his endorsement of Republican Governor Brian Kemp, who declined to run for this seat.
While the Republicans have a spirited primary, the Democrats are working overtime to protect the vulnerable Democrat incumbent Sen. Ossoff.
"Jon Ossoff is the most vulnerable incumbent on the map, and his disastrous record of higher taxes, men in women's sports, and protecting criminal illegals like Laken Riley's killer puts him out of step with Georgia. Ossoff will be defeated for consistently putting the radical left's agenda above Georgians' needs this November," said NRSC Regional Press Secretary Nick Puglia.
