South Carolina House Passes Updated Congressional Map, Fate In State Senate Unclear

This week, the South Carolina House passed an updated map that weakens long-time Democrat Jim Claybu’s Columbia-based seat. This move comes after the United States Supreme Court ruling that clarified the redistricting requirements under the Voting Rights Act. The bill passed the House along party lines and now heads toward the Senate.

It is unclear if there is enough support in the South Carolina Senate to enact a new Congressional map.
