Ossoff Received Over $700,000 From Groups Associated With The Southern Poverty Law Center, He’s Now Silent On The Group’s Federal Indictment For Wire Fraud To ‘Stoke Racial Hatred’

The Southern Poverty Law Center was a key part of Jon Ossoff’s coalition he formed to secure his election to the United States Senate in 2020. Last month, the group has been indicted by the Justice Department for wire fraud to “stoke racial hatred.” And now, Ossoff cannot be bothered to either defend or denounce his long-time allies. He is silent on the issue.  

"If Jon Ossoff is too spineless to reject the Southern Poverty Law Center’s endorsement and return their money, he’s complicit in funneling millions to violent extremist groups like the KKK. Anyone who doesn't condemn these indicted fraudsters is wrong for Georgia - plain and simple,” said RNC Spokeswoman Emma Hall.  

Before the indictment, Ossoff  celebrated and supported the Southern Poverty Law Center. He proudly accepted their endorsement and over $700,000 from the political arm. They played a key role in helping Ossoff secure his narrow victory of Sen. Perdue in 2020.  

But the Justice Department alleges that at Southern Poverty Law Center was committing wire fraud to “stoke racial hatred.” At the same time that they were claiming to “fight racism” they were spending millions to support groups like the Ku Klux Klan, Aryan Nations affiliated Sadistic Souls Motorcycle Club, and the National Socialist party of America (American Nazi Party).  

The Southern Poverty Law Center says that this was to get intelligence about the groups, but the sheer amount of funding casts doubts on that explanation.
