As Approval Rating Falls While Democrats Face Tough Midterm, Liberal Governor Spanberger Reinstitutes Felon Voters En Mass

This week, Governor Spanberger announced that she restored the right to vote for 66,085 Virginians who were formerly incarcerated. This comes as Spanberger approval ratings continue to suffer. Additionally, after Democrats scheme to gerrymander the Commonwealth failed, Virginia Democrats face tough elections in two Congressional districts this midterm election.

Virginia has a constitutional provision that prevents individuals with felonies from automatically regaining the right to vote. As Democrats face increased political pressure, Spanberger is undoing the process set up by Governor Youngkin to ensure that individuals convicted of felonies went through a process before regaining the franchise.

Former Attorney General Jason Miyares said, “The Constitution of Virginia & the Supreme Court is clear, a Governor must review every application on an ‘individualized, case-by-case basis.’ This is precisely what Governor Glenn Youngkin did, personally reviewed every application. He wasn’t interested in headlines or pandering but rather assessing whether or not the applicant had fully served their sentence, if the underlying crime was violent or perpetuated against a child, if the felon was complying with probation, was working hard towards paying their court ordered restitution to the victims.”

He continued, “Abigail Spanberger could have kept following the constitutional process Glenn Youngkin established but in her zeal to grab a headline to appease her a left-wing base, Spanberger has thrown the prior victim focused deliberative process out the window and is clearly failing to follow the Constitution of Virginia. Amazing in all of the news coverage not a single mention of the millions in unpaid restitution that will now never be paid to victims.  Shameful.  Not surprised.  Spanberger is proven once again that her criminal justice policy is criminal first and victims last.”
