State Treasurer Briner Announces Early Availability Of Year-End Tax Documentation For Nearly 400,000 Retirees

This week, State Treasurer Brad Briner announced that the North Carolina Retirement System (NCRS) released nearly 400,000 electron 1099R and W2 Tax documents for retiring and recipients. The law requires NCRS to generate and distribute these tax forms each year by January 31st.  By quickly providing a electronic copy of the necessary documents, state retirees can begin filing their taxes for 2025.

“A top priority for our department is making things easier, safer and more efficient for our members.  This early release of needed tax documents is just one example of how we are better serving North Carolinians,” said Treasurer Brad Briner. “As we continue modernizing NCRS, enhancements to security, account access and overall system performance will further strengthen the administration of all programs.”

NCRS is the ninth largest public pension fund in the United States and is recognized as one of the best funded in the country. It provides retirement benefits and saving programs to more than 1 million North Carolinians, including teachers, state employees, local government workers, firefighters, police office and other public servants. The fund is currently valued at $142 billion.
