Tennessee Legislature Set To Redistrict Congressional Lines, Republicans Likely To Gain Congressional Seat

Today, the Speaker of the Tennessee House said that Tennessee would join other states in redistricting following the recent Supreme Court ruling. This comes after Senator Marsha Blackburn, President Trump, and Governor Bill Lee signaled their openness to this change.

Tennessee House Speaker Camera Sexton said, “The Supreme Court has opined that redistricting, like the judicial system, should be color-blind. The decision indicated states can redistrict based on partisan politics. Today, Tennessee joins other red and blue states in redrawing their congressional maps.”

The new map will likely result in Nine Republicans to the United States House of Representatives, instead of eight Republicans and one Democrat.
