Trump-Endorsed Mike Collins Secures Republican Nomination, As Democrat Sen. Ossoff Tries To Distract From Troubling Background

Last Tuesday, Georgia voters headed to the polls and selected Trump-endorsed Representative Mike Collins in the Republican Runoff for the U.S. Senate contest. Collins defeated Derek Dooley, 55.54% to 44.46% with over 700,000 voters casting their ballots.

Rep. Mike Collins said, “Georgia, I’m honored to be your Republican nominee for the United States Senate. Now it’s time to get to work, defeat Jon Ossoff, and take this seat back for the people of this state. Hammer Down!”

Sen. Tim Scott, the Chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, said, “Jon Ossoff's political ambitions will come to a screeching halt this November. Georgians are done with his agenda of open borders, higher taxes, and left-wing partisanship. Georgia is now uniting behind Mike Collins, because he fights for the future of the Peach State and knows how to win."

Collins represents Georgia’s 10th Congressional decade, serving his second term in Congress. Before heading to Congress, Collins started a trucking company in the early 1990s and now employs over 100 Georgians. He served in various leadership roles in his community before heading to Congress, where he championed several pieces of legislation, notably the Laken Riley act that cracked down on violent crime committed by illegal aliens.

Jon Ossoff deflecting response

In response to Collins victory, Ossoff attacked Collins for supporting President Trump and the fact that his dad previously served in Congress.

The challenge for Ossoff with this line of attack is that in 2024, Georgians voted to send president Trump to the White House, and his line of attack motivates MAGA coalition to turnout for down ballot Republicans like Collins.

Additionally, Ossoff’s entire history is marked by one of nepotism, since his political ambitions were bankrolled by his family. Here are some examples:

  • Had his political career bankrolled by his millionaire father.

  • Used a family inheritance to purchase control of his foreign film company.

  • Lived in a house purchased by his father while working as a congressional staffer.

  • Criticized the Paycheck Protection Program for "overwhelmingly" benefiting wealthy Americans while his father received a PPP loan of up to $1 million.

  • Accepted campaign donations from more than 70 billionaires despite claiming to oppose their influence in politics.

Yet he voted to raise taxes on every single Georgian, including tipped and overtime workers, seniors, and small businesses.

"Jon Ossoff is a silver spoon nepo baby who had his career handed to him by his millionaire father and his campaigns bankrolled by billionaires. Ossoff is with the 1% - not hardworking Georgians." - RNC Spokeswoman Emma Hall.

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, a long time observer of Georgia politics observed that Ossoff’s response projects weakness.

Here is the analysis that Gingrich provided, “Senator Jon Ossoff’s surprisingly bitter and personal attack on GOP senatorial nominee Mike Collins teaches us several things. First, for all the money he has raised from California and other radical Democrats Ossoff is afraid of Collins. Second, that Ossoff knows he cannot win a campaign on the issues and so his only hope is to make vicious, dishonest personal attacks on Mike Collins. Third, that Ossoff will wage an endlessly negative campaign trying to smear Collins out of the race. Let me give a couple examples of how anti-Georgia and how vulnerable Ossoff’s record is.

Gingrich continued, “According to America’s New Majority Project (available at its website) 75%, three out of every four, want to limit women’s athletics to people born as females. Ossoff voted against the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act. 81% favor having only US citizens vote. Ossoff opposes the Save Act. 88% believe every American should have the right to choose the kind of vehicle they wanted. Ossoff voted against repealing the extremely restrictive California electric vehicle mandate. Some 82% believe parents have a right to see the school curriculum for their children. Ossoff opposes these policies. 73% favor expanding domestic oil and gas production to bring down the cost of fuel. Ossoff favors phasing our fossil fuels. Finally, 79% favor middle class tax relief but Ossoff voted against every tax cut and in favor of a giant tax increase in 2025. With a radical anti-Georgia record like this you can understand why Ossoff is turning to viscous dishonest personal attacks to smear Mike Collins instead of debating the issues.”
