UNC Asheville launches historic fundraising campaign

This April, the University of North Carolina Asheville launched the public phase of its Centennial Campaign, with the goal of raising $100 million to support the University in 2027. This initiative was first approved in 2018 by the UNC Asheville Board of Governors, marking the first-ever comprehensive fundraising campaign.

The campaign privately raised $72 million toward its $100 million goal, from 10,000 alumni and friends. This includes a seven-figured gift to establish the Woodward Scholars Program, which supports STEM majors.

Here is a list of the projects the campaign is already supporting on UNC Asheville:

  • Renovation of Owen Hall

  • Construction of the Bailey Welcome Center

  • Establishment of the McClinton Family Global Scholars Program

  • Renovation of the Karl Straus Track

  • Launch of the Access Asheville scholarship program

  • Creation of more than 200 new scholarships, including the Gateway Scholars Program

  • And numerous grants supporting academic programs and faculty research

Going forward, the campaign looks to focus on these three goals:

  • Renovations and expansion of Lipinsky Hall to improve music performance spaces.

  • Construct a new outdoor tennis complex and baseball hitting facility.

  • New student success programs, including scholarships and internships.

Chancellor Kimberly van Noort said the focus on the campaign is to integrate technology across the curriculum, expand career and leadership opportunities, develop new academic programs, and invest in Bulldog Athletics.
