U.S. Supreme Court Dismissed Virginia Democrats’ Longshot Effort To Overturn State Court Redistricting Ruling
Last Friday, the United States’ Supreme Court dismissed the Application for Stay filed by Virginia Democrats in a long shot attempt to overrule the Virginia Supreme Court’s ruling on redistricting. On May 15th, Chief Justice Roberts referred the request to the full Supreme Court, and Court rejected the request with no Justice dissenting.
Former Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli II said, “Here is the order ending (again) the Dems’ desperate gerrymandering fight in Virginia folks.”
Democrat Governor Abigail Spanberger said, “The Supreme Court of the United States has now joined the Supreme Court of Virginia in choosing to nullify an election and voters of more than three million Virginians.” Republican former Attorney General Jason Miyares corrected the record saying, “Enough with the false flag operation that you are desperately pushing. You told Virginia voters last fall that you wouldn’t redistrict our state and silence millions of voters, but you lied and tried to do it anyway. You knew from the very start that your scheme was illegal and unconstitutional.”
The Supreme Court decision means that Virginia will use the maps approved by the nonpartisan redistricting commission for the 2026 election.
