Virginia Narrowly Approves Redistricting Referendum

Yesterday, the Constitutional amendment was approved to allow mid-decade redistricting. The proposal passed on a 51.44% Yes to 48.56% No. The passage of the referendum clears a key hurdle in the legislative process for new districts; however, an ongoing legal fight remains. If Virginia Democrats prevail in passing a new map, the districts will likely lean 10-1 toward Democrats.

Former Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli in response said that legal fight to stop these maps is just beginning.
