Attorney General Alan Wilson Secures Victory In Republican Gubernatorial Runoff Election

Yesterday, South Carolina voters headed to the polls for the Republican runoff election to decide the Republican nominee for general election this November. Election night results show that Attorney General Alan Wilson defeated Lieutenant Governor Pamela Evette 68.56% to 31.44%. Both candidates were endorsed by President Donald Trump. Wilson will face Democrat Jermaine Johnson in the general election this November.

On his victory, Wilson said, “Thank you, South Carolina! Tonight, we made history. This victory belongs to the people who believe our state’s best days are still ahead. Now we unite, and on to November.”

On the results of the runoff, Evette said, “To my family and all of our friends and supporters who've been on this journey with me over the past 18 months since launching this campaign, and the last 8 years serving as your Lt. Governor — your support, encouragement, and friendship has meant the world to me. Thank you for believing in me.

She continued, “I called Alan Wilson to congratulate him on his win and to tell him that he has my support as our party’s nominee. I ask you to join me in doing everything to ensure a win in November.  As this primary election season comes to a close, please know that while I may not have the honor of being the next Governor of this great state, I will always be committed to helping create a brighter future for South Carolina and its people. God bless.”

Wilson was elected Attorney General in 2010 and secured four terms. Before his service as Attorney General, Wilson served as a prosecution division intern under Charlie Condon and as an Assistant Attorney General under Henry McMaster.

“Congratulations to Alan Wilson on his primary victory. Wilson is a combat veteran, a seasoned prosecutor, and a proud patriot. As Attorney General, he fought back against Biden’s radical federal overreach, dismantled dangerous cartel networks, and put child predators behind bars,” said RGA Chair Governor Greg Gianforte. “As governor, Wilson will continue defending the people of South Carolina and ensure families stay safe and free.”
