David Stumbo Secures Republican Nomination For Attorney General
Yesterday, South Carolina voters headed the polls for the runoff election to select the Republican nominee for the general election in November. Republican David Stumbo surpassed Republican Stephen Goldfinch 55.75% to 44.25% according to results from election night. Currently Republican Attorney General Alan Wilson is currently running for governor.
About his victory in the runoff, Stumbo said, “South Carolina just made a statement.. Tonight, voters across our state sent a clear message: they want an Attorney General who will stand strong for the rule of law, defend our Constitution, support law enforcement, and fight each day to keep our communities safe. To every volunteer, supporter, sheriff, solicitor, law enforcement officer, and voter who believed in our campaign: THANK YOU. Your hard work, dedication, and faith in our mission made tonight’s victory possible. “
He continued, “Our campaign has always been about protecting South Carolina families and preserving the values that make our state exceptional. And we will continue fighting and winning to keep South Carolina safe, strong, and free. Onward to November!”
His Republican opponent, Stephen Goldfinch said, “It didn’t turn out for us this time, but I’m mighty proud of the campaign our team ran and the work they put into this race. God has a plan for us and it’s not at the Attorney General’s office. I trust the plan and my hope and faith in Christ gives me comfort and peace through this loss. I sincerely congratulate the Stumbo family and fully support David M. Stumbo in the General Election in November. David is a good man and I’ve come to admire and respect him and Vanessa Crisp Stumbo.”
He continued, “Renee and I are honored by the outpouring of support and we thank each of you that voted for us and put your money, time and support into our campaign. On a positive note, I’m now the Chairman of the Senate Agriculture, Natural Resources and Environmental Affairs Committee! I look forward to continuing to serve South Carolina…and doing a little more fishing now that the campaign is over. God Bless each of you and God Bless South Carolina.”
Stumbo will face Democrat Richard Hricik in the general election in the fall. Hricik is an Ohio native who moved to South Carolina and serves as adjunct faculty at both Virginia-based William & Mary Law School and Charleston School of Law. On his website, he boasts that was recognized as a “National Trial Lawyer Top 100- South Carolina,” “SuperLawyer,” and “Million Dollar Advocates Forum” with a focus on litigation focused on catastrophic injury, product liability, and institutional accountability.
