UNC Asheville Announces New Entrance Monument Project

This week, the University of North Carolina Asheville announced plans for a new campus gateway project that will include a new monument at key entrances on W.T. Weaver Boulevard along with updates at the W.T. Weaver Boulevard roundabout.  

Initial funding for the project was appropriated by the North Carolina General Assembly in 2023. In 2026, additional funding was allocated by the UNC System Board of Governors through State Capital and Infrastructure Fund and Repairs and Renovations allocations. 

Though some of this signage will be installed on the University’s Millennial Campus properties, it is not associated with the current work and subsequent recommendations of the Millennial Campus Development Advisory Committee. 

To accommodate the project, only necessary tree and shrub removal will occur at the southeast corner of W.T. Weaver Boulevard and Broadway and the southwest corner of W.T. Weaver Boulevard and Merrimon Avenue, where the new monument signage will be established. New tree and shrub plantings will be incorporated as part of the completed project. 

The campus gateway project is part of ongoing campus improvement efforts focused on accessibility, infrastructure, navigation, and campus aesthetics.
