Cooper Called Trump a “Significant Threat”, Now He Is Silent On Latest Assassination Attempt
Saturday night, shots rang out at the Washington Correspondents Dinner, as Secret Service and local law enforcement stopped an assassination attempt against President Trump and other members of the Trump administration. The New York Post exclusively obtained the suspect’s manifesto, which indicated clear anti-Trump sentiment. House Minority Leader exemplified national Democrats’ response, when he doubled down on his calls for “maximum warfare” against President Trump.
In North Carolina, Republican U.S. Senate Candidate Michael Whatley promptly said, “Thank God President Trump, Vice President Vance, the Cabinet and all guests at the WH Correspondents Dinner are safe. I am extraordinarily grateful for men and women of Secret Service and law enforcement and praying for the officer who was shot.”
In contrast, a survey of former Governor Roy Cooper’s X account, Facebook, Bluesky, TikTok, Instagram, website, Threads, Flickr, and a search of North Carolina media, shows no response from Cooper to the attempted assassination attempt on President Trump. But Cooper is on record utilizing extremist rhetoric against President Trump. Cooper has called President Trump a “threat” and “dictator.”
“After spewing hateful rhetoric against President Trump and Republicans, Roy Cooper’s silence on yet another assassination attempt against the president is disgusting. Cooper needs to take a look in the mirror, own up to dangerously raising the temperature, and condemn this heinous act of violence,” said RNC Spokeswoman Emma Hall.
In 2024, after the Butler assassination attempt, Cooper briefly expressed concern for the President. Also, in the immediate aftermath of Charlie Kirk’s assassination, Cooper offered condolences and spoke against political violence. He was silent after liberal activists expressed their delight in Kirk’s cold-blooded murder.
NCGOP Communications Director Matt Mercer said, “Crooked Roy Cooper was the most partisan governor in North Carolina history and should know better than to use this kind of abhorrent rhetoric. Sadly, it seems 40 years in elected office has insulated him from feeling remorse or shame.”
In the wake of Charlie Kirk's assassination, a dangerous trend emerged. Polling from YouGov, showed that a younger liberal-leaning individuals disproportionally said that political violence was acceptable. Here are some ways this political trend has become clear in contemporary Democrat politics.
Outside the White House Correspondents Dinner, activists were holding signs calling for “death to tyrants” and “death to all of them.”
NC House Rep. Julie von Haefen shared images of President Trump and Elon Musk being decapitated.
Minority Leader Hakeem Jefferies doubled down on his rhetoric calling for “maximum warfare” against President Trump.
As the Blue Ridge Times reported, several North Carolina democrats disparaged Charlie Kirk and celebrated his assassination.
Jimmy Kimmel took to national television to joke about President Trump’s assassination.
Highly influential progressive commentator, Hasan Piker, urged his audience to kill Republican lawmakers.
"Roy Cooper is yet again coddling another criminal as he refuses to condemn the left-wing assassination attempt on the President and his administration. Cooper is too weak to stand up to the radical left, and his reckless political rhetoric against President Trump must stop," said NRSC Regional Press Secretary Nick Puglia.
