North Carolina Democrat Party Passes Anti-Israel Resolution
This Saturday, at the Summer Meeting of the North Carolina Democrat Party Executive Committee, the delegates passed a resolution accusing Israel of committing genocide and calling for an embargo on sending military aid, weapons shipments, and logistical support. Previously, Democrat State Party Chair Anderson Clayton said that pro-Israel Democrats were a key reason for their loss in the 2024 election.
Key excerpts from the resolution:
The military resources that have been made available to Israel through annual and emergency military aid have been used to commit the crime of genocide and other war crimes in Gaza.
Recent Gallup polling shows that Democratic voters overwhelmingly sympathize with the Palestinian people at 59% support, and polling shows that Democratic Party support of Israel’s assault on Gaza was the primary reason at 29%, a plurality, given by 2020 Biden voters who decided to not vote in 2024.
Polling by Data for Progress in October 2024 showed that 62% of young Democrats support an arms embargo.
RESOLVE: That the North Carolina Democratic Party supports an immediate embargo on all military aid, weapons shipments and military logistical support to Israel.
So far, Governor Stein, Minority Leader Robert Reives, Attorney General Jeff Jackson, or Senate Minority Leader Sydney Batch have not addressed this resolution or said if they plan to change their relationship with the state party in light of this new anti-Israel stance.
Tim’s Take: Last week, we reported on the Drag Brunch at State Party Headquarters, and this week, the story is about the Democrats’ resolution calling for an arms embargo on Israel. This policy is widely out of touch with North Carolinians. While Democrats might prefer that Israel allow the terrorists to simply kill innocent civilians, Americans understand the right to self-defense and the need to fight back against groups that are trying to kill you. This resolution completely overlooks the progress President Trump has made in the last several weeks to enhance American security and promote peace in the region. North Carolina Democrats apparently didn’t receive the memo that a ceasefire is now in place.
