For Months Cooper Stayed Silent On Platner Scandals, Until National Democrats Signaled Permission To Dump Platner
For months, the Blue Ridge Times reported that former Governor was utterly silent on the serious scandal surrounding the Democrat nominee in Maine, Graham Platner. Cooper even remained completely silent about Platner after the New York Times reported serious sexual assault allegations from a woman who happened to lean conservative.
But last Monday, Politico reported a story from a liberal leaning woman in Maine who describe a serious nonconsensual encounter. After that story was released, Senate Democrat Leader Chuck Schumer and DSCC Chair Senator Kirsten Gillibrand released a joint statement calling for Graham Platner to drop out. Only then did Cooper follow Schumer’s lead and issued a brief statement calling for Platner to drop out.
“Roy Cooper’s silence on Graham Platner for more than a year was deafening. While reports came out about Platner’s Nazi tattoo, anti-Semitic comments, and disparaging comments about our veterans for their service to our nation (including the more than 600,000 veterans in North Carolina) Roy Cooper stayed silent. He was complicit with his party’s support of Platner. Only after party leader told him to make a comment Roy Cooper did, showing he will do whatever Chuck Schumer tells him to, just like the will do in the Senate,” said Whatley Spokesman DJ Griffin.
The Blue Ridge Times reached out to Cooper campaign to explain why the allegations from the liberal women were enough for Cooper to demand that he drop out, but not the allegations from the conservative women. The Cooper campaign did not respond with an explanation about why they only believe liberal women and ignore serious allegations from a woman who happens to be conservative. Some political analysts noted that the timing suggests that Democrats are pushing hard now, because the window for Platner to get off the ballot is next week.
Here is a brief list of Platner scandals that Cooper was complicitly silent about:
Multiple women accusing Platner of abuse, harassment, and threatening behavior.
Telling rape victims to “take some responsibility for themselves and not get so f*cked up they wind up having sex with someone they don't mean to.”
Using an active account on the “predator’s Paradise” app, Kik.
Mocking a U.S. solider shot by the Taliban saying, “dumb motherf*cker didn’t deserve to live.”
Calling rural white Americans racist and stupid.
Had a Nazi tattoo that he referred to as “my Totenkopf” for years.
Saying that cops are “opportunistic cowards” and “bastards.”
“Roy Cooper spent nearly 40 years pushing the radical left’s agenda, and his silence further proves he cares more about his political career than North Carolinians,” said NRSC Regional Press Secretary Nick Puglia.
